I recently read an article that mentioned the concept of “zero tasking”. The author spoke highly of its positive impact upon productivity and overall quality of life. Needless to say, I was a skeptical. I mean, how does doing nothing make one more productive? Well, I gave it a try and found that it actually works! I began by taking short breaks, during the work day; just 5-10 minutes here and there. I would use that time to sit and do absolutely nothing. After doing this for several days, I noticed that I’d become less anxious about deadlines, paperwork and other work-related stressors. I was also more productive when I did engage in mono or multi-tasking. In hindsight, this should have been a “no brainer” for me. Many of us zip through our lives, from one task to the next, never really taking the time to stop and be still. Well, I’ve since found that a lot can happen within the stillness. I now “zero task” multiple times a day and I’m getting a lot more done! For those of you who’ve yet to try “doing nothing”, I highly recommend it!
